Cleaning a Crumpler Quilted Fabric Bag in Singapore

A teal Crumpler quilted fabric bag came in for a routine clean after everyday use, with no particular stain or damage. The shell, the pink and orange lining and the rope strap were cleaned, and the quilting kept its shape.

This page records one routine clean, not an outcome to expect from every bag.

What came in?

A Crumpler bag in teal fabric, quilted in a square grid, with a round pink badge on the front and a knotted rope strap. Inside it is lined in bright pink, with a black mesh zip pocket and an orange slip pocket. It came in for a routine clean after everyday use. There was no particular stain or damage to treat.

What did the work have to achieve?

The inside as well as the outside

A bag carries dust, grit and crumbs into its lining, and the strap takes skin oil from the hand and shoulder. The shell, the lining, the pockets and the rope strap were all part of the clean. The lining is bright pink and orange against a teal shell, so each panel had to come out its own colour.

Padding that keeps its shape and dries through

The padding stitched between the quilting lines is what gives the bag its shape, and it holds moisture longer than the fabric around it. The quilting had to stay full and even, and the bag had to be dry right through before it went back, because a bag put away damp in Singapore's humidity can turn musty.

About these photographs

These are working shop records. The before frames were taken on a steel bench when the bag arrived and the after frames on a white table when it was finished, under different light, so the teal reads darker in the after frames. Nothing was colour-corrected, and the page makes no claim about colour. The lining was photographed before cleaning only.

The honest note

Does a routine clean take out every mark?

Not always. We do our best, but many factors will affect the outcome. A routine clean is for general soiling from use. A specific stain is assessed on its own before any work starts, and complete removal is possible on some bags but cannot be guaranteed.

Common questions

Questions about fabric bag cleaning

Can you clean a Crumpler bag in Singapore?

Yes. Rosabelle cleans fabric bags in-house, including the lining and straps. This teal Crumpler quilted bag came in for a routine clean after everyday use, with no particular stain or damage, and its shell, pink and orange lining and rope strap were all cleaned. Bags can be dropped off at our Queenstown and Orchard shops or collected from homes anywhere in Singapore.

How do you clean a quilted fabric bag without damaging it?

A quilted bag has padding stitched between two layers of fabric, so moisture that reaches the padding dries slowly, and in Singapore's humidity a bag put away damp can turn musty. Bright contrasting panels, badges and straps also have to come out as they went in. Before any work starts we check the fabric, the lining, the trims and the care label, and the method is chosen for that bag. On this Crumpler bag the quilting kept its shape.

Can I put a fabric bag in the washing machine?

Check the care label first. A machine cycle can flatten or shift padding, pull at stitched quilting and badges, and let a bright lining colour run into a lighter panel. A bag that is not dried right through to the padding can also smell musty within days in Singapore's humidity. If the label is missing or unclear, or the bag has leather or coated trims, have it assessed before washing it at home.

How much does it cost to clean a fabric bag in Singapore?

Fabric bag cleaning is not on the Rosabelle price list. The price is quoted when the bag is seen, because size, lining, trims and condition all change the work. Pickup is free on the mainland with a minimum order of $100.
